Hello Cultlinary! This is the recipe featuring in our first episode! Fisherman’s pie is a comfort food which is very suitable for gatherings and christmas dinner. Minimal washing and your fish will stay juicy and won’t be burnt! Feel free to replace baby spinach and mushrooms with other vegetables.
Mashed potatoes
Peel and leave all the potatoes to boil until soft.
(I know that some people will prefer to just boil the potatoes and peel after it is soften. However for us, we prefer to just peel and leave it to boil. Because once it is soft, you can just simply drain the water and mashed it using the same pot. Remember minimal washing!)
While mashing, put in 130g of unsalted butter, 50ml fresh milk, salt and pepper to taste. Once done, set it aside.
No need for any fancy seasoning. Just salt and pepper to season the fish in the baking dish.
Grab a friend to do for you. That’s what friends are for!
Put it aside and let it season.
Slice the mushrooms and saute it together with the baby spinach. Sprinkle a pinch of salt and pepper.
Once done, set it aside. (Do not overcook your vegetables as they will continue to be heated up in the oven.)
For the cream sauce, use a pot and for those who have not make this before, set the fire to low.
Put in 100g butter and melt it completely. Slowly put in the flour and mix it well. Follow by cold fresh milk, pour in 50ml by 50ml.
DO NOT PUT IN THE MILK ALL AT ONCE!!!
You may want to add in cheese. (optional)
Finally, assemble everything by putting the mushrooms and baby spinach over the salmon. Sprinkle some lemon juice and you can grate put some lemon zest. Drizzle the cream sauce all over the vegetables evenly. Use a spatula and place lumps of potatoes all over the the baking dish. Spread it out evenly and make sure the salmon is “sealed” with potatoes. This will keep the fish moist!
Preheat the oven. Let this fisherman’s pie bake in the oven at 180 degree Celsius for 30-40minutes.
At the last 5minutes, sprinkle some cheese over it. Done!
Footnotes:
Hello Cultlinary!
I made this dish and served it to my friends for dinner on Friday evening. It was so easy to make! I got home around 6.30pm and by 8-plus, dinner was ready. My friends were wowed by it!
In fact, one of them liked it so much that she tried making it herself at her home one week later. She too found it to be so easy to make and oh so delicious.
Four thumbs up from my friend and me!
